Why "EU Datacenters" of US Cloud Providers Aren't Fully Sovereign
Many organizations assume their data is sovereign if a US-based tech giant stores it in a European datacenter. However, this compromises true digital sovereignty due to:
- The US CLOUD Act: This legislation requires US-based technology companies to hand over requested data to US federal law enforcement, even if that data is physically stored on servers in Europe. Being a US entity overrides the physical location of the data.
- Geopolitical Risks & Trade Wars: Relying on non-European infrastructure exposes your organization to decisions completely outside the EU's control. Trade wars, protective tariffs, or sudden political shifts can unpredictably affect service pricing, availability, and compliance capabilities.
This is exactly why EU GPT is hosted on 100% European-owned infrastructure.
